What do Faegre & Benson & The National Pork Council have to do with Breasts?
If you are even remotely watching your rss right now you would notice that nearly everyone in the seo blogsphere is talking about Jennifer Laycock and her blog The Lactivist getting hit with a letter from Jennifer Daniel Collins an Attorney at Faegre & Benson who represents the National Pork Council. The letter in short says, “use of the phrase “the other white milk” violates their trademark on the phrase “the other white meat.” As such, they’ve demanded that I remove the shirt, demanded that the image of the shirt be removed from any site I know of, demanded that I destroy any shirts that exist with the logo and demand that I not at any point in the future use the phrase in a commercially profitable way.”
I usually don’t chime in on this stuff but this is a joke. I have two twin 3 year old sons that my wife struggled to breast feed and going after a cause as good as the promotion of natural breast feeding is outright ridiculous. I’m no lawyer but I have filed for trademarks and I as others are stating as well this kind of stuff is only relevant if there is a confusion between the two campaigns. I doubt anyone has ever confused Pork with Breast Milk. It is simply ridiculous.
I think it is a joke and I love the power of the Internet and CGM to take it to the big guys. As a reputation management company we know the power of the consumers voice, and it is cool to be on the other side to help the little guy stick it to the big guys.
